Biography/Administrative History
Rockwell Dennis Hunt (1868–1966) was a California educator and historian. Biographical information can be found in multiple
sources. He served as principal of San Jose High School from 1902-1908.
Scope and Content of Collection
Letters, clippings, and reports created and collected by Rockwell D. Hunt during his tenure as principal of San Jose High
School (1902-1908). The primary focus of the materials are the events surrounding Hunt's disciplinary actions against student
athletes Cyril McGraw and Ed McCarthy, and the subsequent charges of misconduct against him by Dr. D. F. McGraw (1907-1908).
Hunt resigned as principal shortly thereafter.
The remainder of the material comprises letters of recommendation (1895-1902), a small number of personal letters (1902-1911),
Reports of the Principal of the San Jose High School (1903-1908).
