Biography/Administrative History
Frank L. Rector was a telegrapher and clerk with the Southern Pacific Company for over forty years. He began working at Truckee
in 1912 where he remained for eleven years and then was assigned to Sierra towns Lawton, Summit, and Andover. He moved to
Woodland about 1930 but returned to Norden in 1932 where he lived with his wife and three children for the next several years.
Mr. Rector belonged to The Order of Railroad Telegraphers for over 45 years (joined April 24, 1911).
Frank L. Rector, was born in West Virginia on August 23, 1892 and died in Yolo County December 28, 1958. He was the brother-in-law
of SP Sacramento Division Secretary to the Superintendent of Motive Power, Howard Hobbs Thompson (MS 559).
Scope and Content of Collection
This collection consists of photocopies of documents relating to the career of Frank L. Rector. The originals are owned by
his daughter Ruth Rector Collins. The papers include a 1956 letter from E. M. Mosier, Grand Secretary of The Order of Railroad
Telegraphers congratulating Mr. Rector on 45 years continuous membership in the ORT, four postcards of Norden, California,
two train orders (Lake Tahoe Railway & Transportation Company, 1922; Southern Pacific 1936), SAN FRANCISCO EXAMINER coverage
of the derailment of the "City of San Francisco" in 1939 as well as a SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE article about SP employees at
Norden.
