Series XXIII: Inaugural Years materials

Inaugural season

This includes correspondences of Elizabeth Seja Min, Nan Washburn and Miriam Abrams, the founders of the Women's Philharmonic. The majority of the material is from the early 1980s and represents the organization's first ten years. This series includes audtion calls for various orchestral instruments; letters of inquiry from conductors, musicians and guest artists; musician union negotiations and correspondence from musicans; office memos and other correspondences relating to the organizing and development of an orchestra, its repertoire and its concerts. Additional information relating to the Community Women's Orchestra, an amateur orchestra organized by the Women's Philharmonic and conducted by Nan Washburn is also included. These include: program notes; audition announcements; orchestra member surveys and correspondence.
