Description
This collection contains 14 original blueprints, 7 acetate copies of the blueprints, 15 original drawings (circa 1984-1987) for proposed alterations and additions, and one copy of site plan from R.M. Schindler papers drawn in his hand, for proposed driveway and house placement. The file also contains a copy of the city building permit, dated 1953, and one letter from the donors who are the previous owners, describing the history of the house.
Background
John H. Coppersmith was the owner/builder of the house at 8715 Skyline Drive in Los Angeles, Calif. Coppersmith apparently was friends with Rudolf Schindler, who was also living on Skyline Drive (with Ellen Janson), and Schindler drew a site plan for the Coppersmith house and driveway, circa 1953. Coppersmith was a bridge engineer and designed the house himself.
