Administrative/Biographical History
Sidney Burnett was born April 28, 1889 in St. Joseph, Missouri; attended Yale University;
graduated from Sheffield Scientific School in 1909; in 1940 founded export-import business
at Manila; interned by the Japanese, 1941-45; opened an office at Shanghai, 1952-54; served
as Administrator of the Palau Islands, Western Carolines, U.S. Trust Territory; died in
Bogota, Columbia on May 23, 1961.
Scope and Contents
Collection consists chiefly of letters from Sidney Burnett to his wife, Blanche T. Burnett
from the Philippines, Shanghai, the Palau Islands, and Bogota, Columbia, but also includes
manuscripts and photographs. The letters document his business at Manila, internment by the
Japanese, business in Shanghai, and his work as administrator in Micronesia.
