Description
Records from former Kiperash family land near Penitencia Creek, San Jose, comprising mainly prune picking ledgers.
Background
George S. Kiperash, Sr., was a native of Yugoslavia who lived in San Jose for 66 years. He died in 1958. Son Sam G. Kiperash
(d. 1982) and his brothers, George and Milo, owned farmland along Penitencia Creek, some of which was purchased by the Santa
Clara Valley Water District for percolation ponds in 1961. In 1977 another parcel was purchased to complete Penitencia Creek
Park. The Kiperash land was surrounded by real estate development by 1981, and George Kiperash, Jr., decided to shut down
the farm and sell.
