The copy negatives were created by San Francisco Maritime Museum staff from photographs in the Museum's collection. Charles
Richards found the copy negatives in a drawer in the recreation room of the St. Francis Square apartment complex in San Francisco,
California, and returned them to the Museum.
SAFR-00001 is a blanket accession that was transferred from the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) to the San Francisco
Maritime National Historical Park in September 1988. GGNRA had previously acquired the collection from the San Francisco Maritime
Museum when it became a unit of the National Park Service in 1977.
GOGA-00789 was transferred from the J. Porter Shaw Library to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) in February
1985.

Collection Scope and Content
The San Francisco Maritime Museum copy negatives, 1881-1924, (SAFR 24835, P78-034) are comprised of photographs mainly of
Pacific Coast built schooners. The collection has been processed to the Item level and is open for use.
Contains 12 black-and-white copy negatives, 5 x 7 in., primarily of schooners built at California and Washington shipyards,
1881-1924.
Includes photographs of the California built vessels BERTIE MINOR (built 1884; schooner, 3m), GENERAL BANNING (built 1883;
schooner, 2m: yacht), GALILEE (built 1891; brigantine), and SAMAR (built 1901; schooner, 4m) as well as a photograph of the
Dickie brothers shipbuilders in their San Francisco office. Also includes photographs of the Washington built vessels ANNIE
LARSEN (built 1881; schooner, 3m), INCA (built 1896; schooner, 5m), and ZAMPA (built 1887; schooner, 3m).
The vessels are photographed in various locations, including San Francisco, California; Aberdeen, Washington; Papeete, Tahiti;
and Adelaide, South Australia.
