Acquisition Information
The papers were donated to the San Jose Historical Museum in 1994, along with other belongings of Wong Sing, by a member of
the Hogg family. The belongings had been gathered together by Dr. Hogg's wife, Agnes, after Wong Sing passed away in 1919.
Biography/Administrative History
According to information given by the donor, Wong Sing was employed c. 1900-1919 as a general agricultural laborer on 80 acres
owned by the Hoggs at 14024 Saratoga Avenue, Saratoga. His work included taking care of their three children.
He may have had a family in China, but was unable to send for them. He was killed in 1919, run over by a bicycle.
Scope and Content of Collection
The papers comprise a small number of snapshots of Sing on the Hogg property, and taking care of the Hogg children; correspondence,
ledgers, invoices, and other assorted papers including a handbill issued by the Alliance for Support of the Chinese Workers
and Peasants Revolution. All material is in Chinese.
