Abstract: Collection of primarily 19th century lithographs depicting San Francisco, California and environs, along with related newspapers,
posters, and panoramic photographs. Most physical items have been scanned and are accessible digitally. Many are also on display
at Stanford Libraries' Green library.
Conditions Governing Access
Open for research; material must be requested at least 36 hours in advance of intended use. Digital versions of most of the
lithographs are available. Some of the physical materials are hanging in Green Library.

Gift of Reid W. Dennis, 2004, 2007, and 2013. Accessions 2004-095 (49 prints), 2007-076 (1 print), 2013-143 (1 print), 2014-116

Bound volume of the Daily California Chronicle. The issues span Volume II Issue 1, May 22, 1854 to Volume II Issue 160, November
20, 1854.
The volume is fragile and needs to be handled carefully. The volume was originally one of the few items saved from the Sneath
family's house in San Bruno after a fire.

Large aerial panorama of San Francisco taken from Rincon Hill. The panorama is composed of 11 plates which were copy photographed
from the original daguerreotypes. The daguerrotypes were created in 1851 by an unknown photographer and Martin Behrman copy
photographed them in 1910. The panorama shows the harbor crowded with deserted ships, Telegraph Hill, Russian Hill, Nob Hill,
Twin Peaks, Rincon Point, Goat Island, and other landmarks identified with pen. The panorama is 77 x 6".

Large copy photograph panorama consists of 11 sections of photographs by Eadweard J. Muybridge. High views showing Alcatraz
island, Telegraph hill, homes, hotels, etc., including many buildings destroyed in the fire of 1906. The panorama was originally
created by Muybridge and this version is a copy photograph by T.E. Hecht in 1910. The panorama was taken from the observation
deck of Mark Hopkins mansion on Nob Hill. There is an inscription that reads, "T.E. Hecht, 430 35th Ave, San Francisco, 1877
from Mark Hopkins Ins." The panorama is 82.75 x 7".

Large aerial panorama photograph of depicting San Francisco's Business District, taken by R.J. Waters on April 14, 1906 (4
days before the 1906 Earthquake). There are 16 canceled checks pasted around the frame of the photograph. The cancelled checks
are from the American National Bank, California Insurance Company and First National Bank to various businesses and individuals.
The checks are dated from June 1906 to December 1906. The panorama has an inscription, "G.T. Marsh & Co, publishers, S.F."
The panorama is 60 x 15.25".
