Abstract: Nina Jo Smith is a Bay Area songwriter and guitarist. A student of martial arts, she also taught self defense and devoted herself to non-violence work for 20 years. The collection includes newsletters from the National Women's Martial Arts Federation, circa 1987-1992; and records documenting the Pacific Association of Women Martial Artists, including by-laws and articles of incorporation, board materials, flyers, newsletters and photographs, circa 1990.

Scope and Content of Collection

Nina Jo Smith is a Bay Area songwriter and guitarist. A student of martial arts, she also taught self defense and devoted herself to non-violence work for 20 years. The collection includes newsletters from the National Women's Martial Arts Federation, circa 1987-1992; and records documenting the Pacific Association of Women Martial Artists, including by-laws and articles of incorporation, board materials, flyers, newsletters and photographs, circa 1990. There is also a a flyer for a reading at Modern Times bookstore, "Family Albums: A Reading about Our Peoples--Nina Jo and Johnny Poetry and Prose," undated. The collection also includes a cassette recording of a panel entitled 'Homophobia in Women's Sports' presented at the 1991 national convention of the National Association of Girls and Women in Sports of American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
