Abstract: Mendel B. Silberberg was a Jewish communal leader and a prominent attorney in the motion picture industry. As a former
president of the Los Angeles Jewish Community Council, Silberberg was active in the work of the United Jewish Appeal, the
Joint Distribution Committee and the National Conference of Christians and Jews. His career also led to a term as Beverly
Hills councilman and a position as Director Emeritus of Columbia Pictures. This small group of papers consists chiefly of
letters of condolence to his wife upon his death in June 1965, and some personal ephemera from his school days and military
service.

Biographical note
Mendel B. Silberberg was a Jewish community leader and a prominent attorney in the motion picture industry. As a former
president of the Los Angeles Jewish Community Council, Silberberg was active in the work of the United Jewish Appeal, the
Joint Distribution Committee and the National Conference of Christians and Jews. He visited Israel with a UJA study mission
group. His career also led to a term as Beverly Hills councilman and a position as Director Emeritus of Columbia Pictures.
Scope and Contents
The Mendel Silberberg papers consists primarily of letters of condolence sent to Silberberg's widow upon his death in June
1965. There is also a small amount of personal ephemera from his high school, college, and military service days as well as
newspaper clippings about his achievements through the 1960s.
