Scope and Content
Collection of dance programs, playbills, and souvenir programs spanning the twentieth century from teens to nineties. Several
files include American Ballet Theater programs from 1940 to 1991. Collection contains both U.S. dance troupes and overseas
touring troupes, representative of ballet and native dance troupes from Africa, Bali, Cambodia, France, Greece, Haiti, India,
Iran, Israel, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Philippines, Poland, Spain, Yugoslavia. Programs often contain descriptions of regional
dances and practices.
Files contain clipping collections of dancers and artists related to dance, such as costumers/set designers Leon Bakst and
Horace Armistead, as well as subjects related to dance, such as stage setting and scenery; pictorial works; costume; ballet
and dancing depicted in art; ballet of the 20th century; cartoons and caricatures of dance.
Arrangement
This collection is divided into the following series: I. Dance troupe program files, II. Subject files, III. Dancers and artist,
and Series IV. Accession PA.2013.012.
