Separated Materials
Two photographic prints, an aerial photograph of Twin Peaks neighborhood (San Francisco) and a reproduction of an architectural
rendering of the San Francisco Municipal Railway N-Judah trolley line and San Francisco Mint at Duboce and Church Streets,
transferred to the Pictorial Division of the Bancroft Library (BANC PIC 1998.091--Roll).
Biographical / Historical
Clyde Wahrhaftig (1919-1994) was a geologist with the United States Department of the Interior and a professor of geology
at the University of California, Berkeley. He was born and raised in Fresno, California and earned his B.A. from Caltech and
his Ph.D. in geology from Harvard. He worked for the United States Geological Survey for his entire professional life and
was the author of a number of geological guide books to Western cities, including San Francisco. Wahrhaftig's guidebooks are
notable for, among other things, providing information about access to geological attractions by public transportation.

Papers of Clyde Wahrhaftig, professor of geology, including professional correspondence, manuscripts of and notes regarding
his guidebooks, research and report materials (including materials regarding Emigrant Basin and Golden Gate National Recreation
District), and course and teaching materials.
