Series 1: Production Design Materials
Scope and Contents
This series mostly features material created in the process of production design for the film "Hugo" and consists of images
used as reference during filmmaking. Included are scene draftings, reference iamges for props and sets, and photos of shooting
locations. Additional material includes blueprints used for "The Aviator" and continuity photographs for "The Edge of Darkness."

Draftings and Concept Art- working copies

Scope and Contents
Draftings were drawn by various artists under production designer Dante Ferretti. Box 3, Folders 2-8 feature a combination
of draftings, reference images, and CG renderings originally found together in binders. Two original pencil renderings are
found in Box 3, Folder 2. Storyboards and concept art are found in Box 4.
Processing Information
Over 1000 individual numbered draftings were originally divided and filed in 7 binders with ranges 001-149, 150-299, 300-449,
450-599, 600-749, 750-899, and 900-1007.
Box 3, Folders 2-8 were originally in 7 individual binders and moved to individual corresponding folders.

Physical Description: These draftings are replicated in their entirety in Box 3-5 in a smaller and more manageable format. Researchers should request
those boxes for easier handling.

Shooting Locations
Processing Information
Material was originally in one binder divided into 23 tabs representing each shooting location. Each tab is now in a respective
folder with the tab's label transferred to the folder's label. Folder 11 contains a map of all 23 locations.

These materials were originally stored in two binders and left in their original photo sheets.
Scope and Contents
These photos were used to maintain continuity while filming different scenes in the film "The Edge of Darkness."

Processing Information
Bolts and scraps of fabric arrived in plastic bags containing papers identifying the costume piece that was created from the
fabric, and the character that wore the costume. The exact language from these identifiers was used to name individual items
in the finding aid.
