    Administrative History

Founded in 1986, UC San Diego's Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IRPS) was established as the University of California's only professional school of international affairs, and the first in a public university in the United States. The curriculum focuses on the issues of business, economics, politics, and security in a global context, with particular emphasis on the Pacific Region, including Asia and Latin America.
In 2015, the school's name was changed to the School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS). GPS degree offerings have expanded to include education in both international affairs and public policy. The school offers an executive education master's degree and integrated five-year options which earn both a bachelor's and master's degree.
