Biography/Administrative History
In 1956 the Newport Harbor Service League was established by several members of local Junior League chapters. The group's
goal was to train and support volunteers to contribute to community projects. The group sponsored a number of community programs,
principally aimed at art, music and theater programs. In 1959, the Service League began to manage the Danish Coffee Garden,
located on land owned by the Sherman Foundation at the corner of Coast Highway and Dahlia Street, in Corona del Mar, CA. In
1966, the group began the multi-year application process to join the Junior League. On February 11, 1971 the Newport Harbor
Service League became the Junior League of Newport Harbor.
