Abstract: Rev Daniel Edwin Bushnell travelled overland by wagon train from Pennsylvannia to California in 1862. His journal, handwritten
in ink, is described by the author on the opening page as follows: "My trip to California and what I saw and heard on the
way, on the sights and shades of a trip overland to the "Golden Shores". Written from notes taken each day over our 5 month
pilgrimage."
There is a photo of Bushnell in the front of the journal and it is signed "Rev D. Edwin Bushnell, Cumberland Presbyterian
Church, Sonoma, Cal, July 28th, 1864.
Though sometimes difficult to read, this handwritten daily description of the toil, travail and challenges of the trip West
by Wagon Trail is richly descriptive of the country crossed and contains many interesting stories of life on the trail.
The daily journal covers the time period from May 5 to September 6, 1852 beginning in Pennsylvania and ending at Humbolt City,
Nevada Territory. There is a suppliment describing the journey from Humbolt to the Truckee River.
