Description
This collection contains original scripts by various playwrights including Anthony (Tony) Curiel, Luis Valdez, Josefina Lopez, Carlos Morton, and others. There are records and production files produced by El Teatro Campesino. Also within the collection are Curiel's personal research notes and files, production files, photographs, and audiocassettes of music used for Curiel's productions.
Background
Anthony Curiel (1954-2013) was an accomplished Chicano theater director and scholar. From 1989-2005, he served on the faculty at the University of California, San Diego's department of theatre and dance. From 1983-1992, he was Associate Artistic Director for the iconic El Teatro Campesino (ETC). Among the plays he directed for ETC are La Pastorela, Corridos, la Virgen del Tepeyac, Dark Root of a Scream, and Bernabe.
