    Abstract: The collection consists of items collected by Laura Klure related to the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) of Riverside, a women's organization dedicated to empowering women and advocating for civil rights. Materials in the collection mostly consist of interviews, research, notes, and other documents related to the Riverside YWCA History Project, which was an effort by Klure and others undertaken in the early 1990s to document the history of the local branch and create an archive of Riverside YWCA records.

    Processing of the Laura Klure collection on the Riverside Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) was completed by undergraduate students from the University of California, Riverside as part of the Special Collections & University Archives Backlog Processing Project started in 2015. This project was funded by the UCR Library and administered by Jessica Geiser, Collections Management Librarian.

    Historical Note

    The Riverside Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) was established in 1906 as one of the charter organizations under the national YWCA. The YWCA, from its founding, was devoted to empowering women and improving their lives, and throughout its history in Riverside championed such causes as education, racial equality, women's rights, career development and other social causes.

    Collection Scope and Contents

    The collection consists of items collected by Laura Klure related to the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) of Riverside, a women's organization dedicated to empowering women and advocating for civil rights. Materials in the collection mostly consist of interviews, research, notes, and other documents related to the Riverside YWCA History Project, which was an effort by Klure and others undertaken in the early 1990s to document the history of the local branch and create an archive of Riverside YWCA records.
    Klure used these documents to write a book, Let's Be Doers: A History of the YWCA of Riverside, California, 1906-1992, published in 1992. The collection also include some records of the organization, including programs, brochures, manuals, and photographs.
