Immediate Source of Acquisition
The materials in this Collection were donated to the San Diego Air and Space Museum.
Edward C. Mele was born on December 21, 1915 and was raised in Louisiana. At age 25, he went to a night school in New Orleans
for accounting. When he was 27 he entered full term service for the Air Force. He attended San Marcos Air Force field in New
Mexico before being transferred to the South Pacific to become part of the 20th Air Force V H Bombardment. While deployed
there, he also became separated from his command and later found his way back. On November 8th, 1945 he was honorably discharged
from the military as a Master Sergeant of the 680th bomb squadron.
