Description
The Ventura County Forum of the Arts, was founded on November 30, 1961. The purpose of the Forum was to advance the interest,
influcence and usefulness of the arts in the community by providing a creative outlet. This included furnishing education
facilities in all branches of art to engage the promotion of fine and applied arts, music, dancing, literature and drama.
The papers consist of undated reports, financial records, correspondence, notebooks, issues of the
Forum Magazine and newspaper clippings.
Background
Born out of the Ventura Arts and Crafts Association, The Ventura County Forum of the Arts, was founded on November 30, 1961.
The purpose of the Forum was to advance the interest, influcence, and usefulness of the arts in the community by providing
a creative outlet. This included furnishing education facilities in all branches of art to engage the promotion of fine and
applied arts, music, dancing, literature, and drama. It also worked to aid individuals and organizations in the pursuit, appreciation,
and enjoyment of the arts. The success of the Forum of the Arts depended upon the enthusiasm and dedication of its members.
It was also the first arts organization to offer grants to the local arts community.
