PAPUA NEW GUINEA FIELDWORK RESEARCH
Scope and Content of Series
Series 3) PAPUA NEW GUINEA FIELDWORK RESEARCH. Arranged in three subseries: A) Notebooks, B) Topical Notebooks, and C) Research.
A) Numbered Notebooks: Arranged by date. Notebooks contain Tuzin's daily handwritten entries, recording information on village
events, conversations, formal interview sessions with informants and other studies. The journals document both of Tuzin's
fieldwork sessions in Papua New Guinea from 1969-1971 and 1985. Included is his field notes index, which corresponds with
the numbered notebooks.
B) Topical Notebooks: Notebooks focused on specific topics of life in Ilahita, including extensive information on genealogies
and interviews with the villagers.
C) Research: Compilations of notes taken by Tuzin, as well as population data reports and some early research papers. Also
of interest are children's drawings from Papua New Guinea and two bullroarers made by villagers and given to Tuzin. Materials
from his graduate studies include Tuzin's thesis proposals, and research and writing outlines.
