Content Description

The Raymond Jensen papers, 1943-1945, consist of more than 500 letters written by Raymond Jensen to his wife Doris and other family members, and from Doris to Raymond, during Raymond's service in the United States Navy during World War II. The letters from Raymond to Doris were written while Raymond was in boot camp in Farragut, Idaho; and stationed in Chicago, and College Station, Texas all while attending courses to become a radio technician. All of these letters (the bulk of the collection) date from 1943. The few letters from 1944 and 1945 were written by friends. The letters provide a picture of life in the military and on the home front during World War II. The letters from Doris provide interesting insights into the roles of women working during the War and the rationing of goods.
