Scope and Contents
The
Robert E. Mueller Collection consists of nineteen
scrapbooks. Each contains images of women or sexual activity between men and women.
Scrapbooks occasionally feature gay and lesbian content; however, they predominantly follow
a heterosexual and heteronormative framework. The images have been cut out from erotic and
pornographic magazines and other sources, and appear to derive from the early 1960s through
the late 1980s. Mueller's scrapbooks are arranged by subject and divided thematically. Some
focus exclusively on particular parts of female anatomy, while others include nude or
clothed models posing in a variety of positions. Some scrapbooks contain images of models
masturbating, while others include sexual acts involving two or more people.
