Biographical / Historical

Howard Hughes purchased the rights to Armitage Trail's novel Scarface, to develop the gangster film. Both the film and novel are loosely based on the life of Al Capone.

Collection consists of set design sketches for the 1932 film Scarface. An inventory of the sketches is included in the box.
Originally part of the Ethel Barrymore Memorial Theatre Arts Collection at the University of Southern California Library 100 Series, and was labeled 100-50.
