Background
Robert G. Coleman (1923-2020) was an Emeritus Professor of Geological and Environmental Sciences at Stanford University's Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences. A world renown geologist, Coleman made significant contributions to the field of circumpacific tectonics, petrogenesis of the oceanic lithosphere, and the petrotectonics of Alpine-Tethyan convergent suture zones.
