Donated to the GLBT Historical Society by Randy Miller in 1996.

Randy Miller was an incredibly busy activist involved in a broad range of issues, but most of his efforts went into AIDS education and prevention and GLBT advocacy. He was particularly focused on issues facing minorities and men and women of color, and on local as well as national politics. Like many other activists at the time, Miller was involved with a multitude of organizations and causes.

This collection consists of materials collected by Randy Miller from the various organizations he was associated with in the early 1990s. This collection is particularly interesting in that it is an example of the community-based activism that was a typical response to the AIDS crisis in San Francisco. The papers also show the rich variety of AIDS organizations that sprung up during this time. This collection is divided into 4 series, Minority GLBT Issues, GLBT Advocacy, Safe Sex, and Other Activities. Minority GLBT Issues (1988-1993) consists of materials relating to Miller's activities on minority GLBT issues. Documented here is Miller's involvement in planning and participating in various conferences which addressed issues affecting the minority GLBT population. Besides conference materials this series contains meeting minutes and by-laws from several organizations. The Advocacy series (1992-1994) contains a sampling of materials from various GLBT related causes in which Miller was interested or participated in. The Safe Sex series (1985-1993)documents Miller's involvement in promoting safe sex and AIDS prevention. The Other Activities series (1985-1993) contains materials documenting Randy Miller's other activities and interests. The correspondence file contains communications between Miller and various political leaders, including Diane Feinstein, the office United States Senator Cranston, several mayors of San Francisco, as well as letters to various newspapers and publications. Among other materials here are items documenting Miller's role on San Francisco City College Blue Ribbon Panel, which was convened to help overcome a budget shortfall; analysis of President Clinton's healthcare proposal; and materials from the San Francisco's Human Right Commission.
