This collection contains two photo albums and one scrapbook belonging to Sgt. Willard Ray Haley, USAAF during the Second World
War. Also included are several medals, a foot locker*, and various military documents relating to Haley's time in the military.
Between August 1941 and November 1942 Haley was stationed at Fort Mears, Dutch Harbor, Alaska. One of the albums in this collection
bears the seal of the Alaska Defense Command which was responsible for coordinating the defense of the Alaska territory after
the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Series 1, Photo Albums and scrapbook 1940 - 1945

This series contains two photo albums. The first,"Snaps and Scraps: U.S. Army, Fort Mears, Dutch Harbor, Alaska," is decorated
with images of crossed weapons and the Alaska Defense Command seal designed by Disney artist Hank Porter in 1941 (www.normandytothebulge.be).
The second page of the album is titled "My Army Diary" and consists of several blank spaces in which the soldier can enter
his registration date, examination dates, branch of service, and rank. In the space marked "Important Events and Special Details,"
Haley has made note of the attack on Pearl Harbor--"December 7th Japan attacked U.S. in the Back"--and the first attack on
Dutch Harbor. The rest of the album contains photographs of Haley and other indiviuals as well as images of Alaska.
The second album, simply titled "Photographs," also contains photographs of individuals and military-related images.
Also included in this series is a scrapbook containing various greeting cards, newspaper clippings, and photographs.
