Acquisition Information
The Harry A. Eastman Ranch collection was donated to the Model Colony History Room by Mr. Eastman's sister, Marjorie Eastman
Wilder, in 1984.
Biography/Administrative History
Harry Augustus Eastman (1879-1974) was a grove farmer and businessman in south Ontario from 1907 until 1970. His primary crop
was walnuts, but he also grew citrus fruit and developed, but did not patent, a new strain of plum. His ranch was bounded
by Francis, Walnut, Benson and Palmetto streets. In 1976 the city of Ontario purchased 15 acres of his land for a public park,
now called the Homer F. Briggs Memorial Park.
Scope and Content of Collection
The Harry A. Eastman Ranch collection contains business and financial documents related to the Eastman Ranch Company including
income and expense reports, financial statements, and operations. Also included are newspaper clippings, photographs, and
correspondence.
