Background
Harry Augustus Eastman (1879-1974) was a grove farmer and businessman in south Ontario from 1907 until 1970. His primary crop
was walnuts, but he also grew citrus fruit and developed, but did not patent, a new strain of plum. His ranch was bounded
by Francis, Walnut, Benson and Palmetto streets. In 1976 the city of Ontario purchased 15 acres of his land for a public park,
now called the Homer F. Briggs Memorial Park.
