Description
The Vincent "Frank" Chavez Photograph Album includes photographs documenting Chavez' military service, Mexican-American family life in California from the late 1940s through the 1980s, and clippings and ephemera relating to life as a Vietnam Veteran.
Background
Vincent "Frank" Chavez (1949-2011) born on December 1, 1949 in Los Angeles, California was a Mexican-American Marine from Cloverfield, California who served in the Vietnam war. While serving as a Marine with the Battalion Landing Team, 3rd Battalion, 26th regiment, Lima Company, Chavez was involved in Operation Oklahoma Hills. During this operation, Chavez, under heavy fire and disreagrd for his own safety, retrieved the platoon commander Liuetenant Ronald Rossini. This act of valor earned him the Bronze Star with Combat V.
