    Biographical / Historical

    Chief Carpenter's Mate Clarence Joseph "C.J." Adams, United States Navy served aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard (CV-31) during the Second World War. His daughter, Sally Ann, was born in April 1945 just before these letters were sent.

    Content Description

    This collection contains two letters from CCM Clarence Joseph Adams, USN to his family during the Second World War. The letters were sent two months apart after he heard of the arrival of his daughter, the donor, Sally Ann Adams, and the second letter addresses her directly. In the first letter, CCM Adams tells his wife about his excitement at receiving a telegram informing him of Sally Ann's arrival and he and the other chiefs had cigars.
