Scope and Contents
The Mrs. S.M. Furman Letters Collection (1919-1936; undated) contains 18 letters addressed to Mrs. S.M (Sarah) Furman from
Alexander MacKay, daughters Edith MacKay, Georgia Beaumont, and Jennie Mullen, as well as grandchildren William and Frances
Mullen, and W.S. Bennett. This collection also includes Easter and birthday cards, postcards, a poem, bible pages, news clippings,
and photographs. Most of the material would be in relation to the domestic life and travel among families between 1910s and
1930s in California, Indiana, Ontario, and Ohio. Some topics within the letters and postcards include vacation, health of
family, Easter gifts, weather, visitations among parties, and homestead updates.
In these letters, Sarah Furman was oftern refered to as: Sait or Sate.

Biographical / Historical
Sait or Sate's full name was Sarah M. Furman. She was a widow. Her daughters were named: Jennie Mullen, Georgia Beaumont,
and Edith MacKay. She was born around 1851 and lived in Pacific Grove, California; Kneeland (Humboldt Co.), California; and
Eureka, California. Her last known occupation was listed as a housekeeper.
Jennie Mullen was married to William Mullen and had three children named: William F Mullen, Jerry D. Mullen, and Frances Mullen.
