    Abstract: The Heartland Creative Community Association is a community organization formed in 1973 from earlier efforts in El Cajon, California to promote cultural growth, connectedness and programming in East San Diego County. Initial activities were sponsored jointly with the Women’s Committee of the Grossmont Community Concert Association and the Grossmont College’s Office of Community Service. The Association worked in the fields of the arts, the humanities and public service to promote greater participation in and contributions to all those people-influenced areas and was active in this organizational configuration from 1973-1987. Collection consists of three scrapbooks and two publications.

    Biography/Administrative History

    The Heartland Creative Community Association is a community organization formed in 1973 from earlier efforts in El Cajon, California to promote cultural growth, connectedness and programming in East San Diego County. Initial activities were sponsored jointly with the Women’s Committee of the Grossmont Community Concert Association and the Grossmont College’s Office of Community Service. The Association worked in the fields of the arts, the humanities and public service to promote greater participation in and contributions to all those people-influenced areas. The association continued a wide range of community-based cultural activities until it a proposed reorganization was proposed at a meeting on April 20. 1987. The collection concludes with a final membership meeting program from April 23, 1988.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    This collection consists of three scrapbooks: Volume 1: 1971-1977, Volume 2: 1977-1983, and Volume 3: 1983-1988 as well as two publications: Our Challenge Our Choice from 1977 and Project Go: Case study for specialized elderly and handicapped transportation from March 1979. Our Challenge Our Choice is the edited transcription of four town meetings co-sponsored by the California Council for the Humanities in Public Policy and the Heartland Creative Community Association, in conjunction with Grossmont College. Topics include transportation, breaking the racial-cultural barrier, education, and health.
