Content Description

Materials include correspondence from the East German "Freiheit für Angela Davis" Campaign, 1971-1972. Archive of approximately 90 items, chiefly signed postcard petitions, including 13 letters and broadsides, single pages and folded many with original illustrations and envelopes, addressed to Judge Richard Arnason at the Santa Clara District Court or the United Committee to Free Angela Davis on the cover.

Biographical / Historical

Angela Davis (born 1944) is an American political activist, who was arrested in 1970 in relation to a murder case. Campaigns for solidarity with Davis were popular throughout both West and East Germany. The East German "Freiheit für Angela Davis" Campaign, 1971-1972, led to the creation of ephemera related to Davis' imprisonment
