    Historical note

    In the mid-1970s, a proposal was written adapt Russell Kirk's book The Roots of American Order into a documentary series on KCET (a Los Angeles public television station, Southern California's flagship PBS member station from 1970 to 2010). The show was tentatively titled America's Roots. Though the series was never completed, Bruce Herschensohn did create binders with photographs and proposed shot lists in anticipation of filming.

    The collection contains materials related to the proposal to turn Russell Kirk's book The Roots of American Order into a documentary series on KCET, tentatively titled America's Roots. Materials include correspondence, proposal drafts, and binders created by Bruce Herschensohn with photographs and shot lists for the proposed series. Individuals who feature prominently in the correspondence include Morris B. Pendleton, Romuald Gantkowski, Russell Kirk, and others. Items range in date from 1976 to 1982.
