The Sierra Club of Northern California/Nevada Conservation Committee was founded in 1968 as the Sierra Club Northern California
Regional Conservation Committee and is also known as the California Conservation Committee, the California-Nevada Conservation
Coordinating Committee and CNRCC. The organization works to establish general conservation policy and specific conservation
positions for Sierra Club California and the 13 chapters of the California Sierra Club. Its structure is composed of conservation
issue committees and task forces that research and propose conservation policy and coordinate and implement programs for conservation
issues across the various chapter boundaries.

The Sierra Club of Northern California/Nevada Conservation Committee records document the organization’s conservation policy
and conservation position work in Northern California and Nevada, mainly in the 1970s and 1980s. This collection includes
records of three legislative representatives who lobbied for the organization during that period: Paula Carrell, Russell Shay
and Lowell Smith. Activities documented include public policy research and planning, lobbying and legislative hearings, and
task force and committee meetings. Consists of correspondence, administrative records and financial records, environmental
analysis, testimony, maps, meeting minutes, and newsletters.
The collection is divided into two series: Administrative files and Subject files.
