Abstract: Erwin Binder, sculptor and veteran of the United States Air Force, was born in 1934 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He studied
at Otis Arts Institute located in Los Angeles, California in 1962. He sculpted the "Sequoyah Statue" that was placed in front
of the Braun Research Library at the Southwest Museum in 1977. This collection includes Binder's curriculum vittae that lists
Binder's accomplishments from 1977-1993. The collections also includes ephemera and magazine article clippings featuring Binder's
artwork from 1990-1991.

Erwin Binder, sculptor and veteran of the United States Air Force, was born in 1934 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He studied
at Otis Arts Institute in 1962. He sculpted the "Sequoyah Statue" that was placed in front of the Braun Research Library at
the Southwest Museum in 1977. One of his most well-known pieces, "Requiem," was created in 1988 and funded by "a collection
of proud patriots" assembled by actor Bob Hope and mayor of Burbank, California, Michael Hastings. The sculpture was installed
in Burbank's Johnny Carson Park on Riverside Drive between Buena Vista and Bob Hope Drive.

This collection includes Binder's curriculum vittae, which includes a list of his art installations, exhibits, and published
articles about Binder. The list documents Binder's accomplishments from 1977-1993. The collection also includes ephemera and
magazine article clippings featuring Binder's artwork from 1990-1991.
Photographs in the Braun Research Library Photo Archives includes images of Erwin Bender for the casting and installation
of the "Sequoyah Statue."
The library of the Southwest Museum of the American Indian began acquiring collections in 1908. In 1977, a new library structure
was built, funded by Mr. and Mrs. C. Allan Braun. From then on the library officially became known as the Braun Research Library.
In January 2004, the merger of the Southwest Museum of the American Indian, Museum of the American West (formerly known as
the Museum of Western Heritage), and Women of the West Museum formed the Autry National Center. The Autry again changed its
name in 2015 to the Autry Museum of the American West
The Libraries and Archives of the Autry consist of the Braun Research Library and the Autry Library - both of which hold collections
that provide a broad context for the Autry museum's artifact collections.
