    Administrative History Note

The library of the Southwest Museum of the American Indian began acquiring collections in 1908. In 1977, a new library structure was built, funded by Mr. and Mrs. C. Allan Braun. From then on the library officially became known as the Braun Research Library.
In January 2004, the merger of the Southwest Museum of the American Indian, Museum of the American West (formerly known as the Museum of Western Heritage), and Women of the West Museum formed the Autry National Center. The Autry again changed its name in 2015 to the Autry Museum of the American West
The Libraries and Archives of the Autry consist of the Braun Research Library and the Autry Library - both of which hold collections that provide a broad context for the Autry museum's artifact collections.
