    Historical Note

    The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Center for Language Education and Research (CLEAR) was a federally-funded five-year project lasting from 1985 - 1989. The Center was part of the UCLA Center for World Languages. The purpose of CLEAR was to improve the quality of language education in the United States. It's chief focus was on English proficiency with a simultaneous commitment to the maintenance and development of heritage language proficiency.

    Scope and Content

    Record Series 415 contains correspondence from the five-year duration of the Center for Language Education and Research. General correspondence is included as well as correspondence with associations, Congressman Augustus Hawkins, and other departments. Memorandums, proposals, and contract information are also included.
    This is an inactive record series; no additional University records are expected to be added.
