Background

Scope and content:

This collection is comprised of records documenting the work of the Orangevale Community Planning Advisory Council from 1980 to 1992, the bulk of which pertain to the 1981-1983 effort to form a Community Services District. The records include a 1980 U.S. Census data on the Orangevale area; a 1981 Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) and Community Services District (CSD) report; press releases from the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors regarding the proposed CSD; an Orangevale Community Task Force survey regarding the CSD; a 1983 analysis of the Orangevale Community Task Force Request to Create an MAC-CSD for Orangevale; a 1986 report on the Orangevale community; Orangevale Community Planning Advisory Council minutes from 1992; and the 1992 Orangevale Community Plan Survey.

Biographical / historical:

The Orangevale Community Planning Advisory Council formed in 1975 for the purpose of representing the community to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors. The advisory group formed as an outgrowth of the Orangevale Community Use Plan committee and was comprised members from that committee nominated by the Board of Supervisors. Since its formation, the Council has advised the Board of Supervisors on issues relating to growth, zoning, traffic and environmental protection. From 1981 to 1983, the Council joined a failed effort to form a Community Service District (CSD) with a Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) for the Orangevale community, which would have allowed for local control of some county services.
