Title:

Reenactment of the opening of the University Farm, With a real gate set up for the occasion, old timers of the Davis campus re-enact the opening of the University Farm at midnight August 31, 1906. Unlocking the gate as he did 50 years earlier is John Rogers, first farm foreman and now a Yolo County supervisor. Behind him, left to right, are George H. Hart, Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine, emeritus; Leonard H. Day, Associate Pomologist, Emeritus; Carroll E. Howell, Professor of Animal Husbandry; Omund Lilleland, Lecturer in Pomology; and Horace T. Strong, Agricultural Extension Animal Husbandman. The original gate was on Second Street, in front of the present Chemistry Building. The ceremony wound up the annual meeting of the Quarter-Century Club, made up of Davis faculty members who have been with the University 25 or more years.
