Description:
Typed letter from Paul H. Kusuda to Rev. Fred Fertig, 1942 May 25.
Manzanar Reception Center Manzanar, California May 25, 1942 Reverend Fred Fertig 822 E. 20th
St. Los Angeles, California Dear Fred: Sunday, May 24th, you spoke at Manzanar at the 10 o’clock services. Afterwards,
if you remember, a fellow chased after you to ask you about the opportunities of continuing college. I am that fellow.
Exactly what are the chances for anyone in a reception center to continue with college or university education? As you can
realize, we shall have to depend solely or practically solely upon outside sources of income. This evacuation has diminished
our bank-roll (if we were lucky enough to have one) to such a degree that we are not in a very good position to expend much
(if any) money. Therefore, we must be assured of the fact that practically all, or all (if possible) of the expenses will
be taken care of before we could even consider any plan for further education. We shall be will ing to work outside of school,
but we know that such money will not even begin to cover the expenses. If we are going to take advantage of any offer,
will we have to attend a school affiliated with any church or church organization? Many people are wondering about this question.
Thank you for taking time off to read this. Sincerely, Paul H. Kusuda P.S. What became of
the report on which we spend so much time. If you have a copy of the final report which was submitted, would you please send
me it? I would like to know what became of our work.
