Uncle Tom Torres stands in front of the carport at Springville Ranch in 1963. Torres arrived in the United States in the
1930s as a farm laborer. He lived at Springville Ranch where he was allowed to plant his own vegetables, such as bitter melon,
and cabbages. He would invite Filipino families and friends to come pick them. Tom Torres was a lifelong vegetarian, who
never married, but saved his earings to send to students in the Philippines.
