Title:

Tramp iron, When eaten by cattle, along with hay, this can cause severe injury, porr production, or even death. A new device built by the University of California agricultural engineers separates the tramp iron from forage as it is harvested. Most fields harbor at least several pieces of dangerous iron; some contain pounds of it. Likely sources are bailing wire, broken machine parts, fence wire, staples, and nails. The handful shown was harvested during a trial run on a Davis campus alfalfa field.
