Description:
Handwritten letter from Paul H. Kusuda to Afton Nance, 1942 August 9.B 32-3-3 War Relocation Area Manzanar, California August 9, 1942 Dear Mrs. Nance: As you have read in the Manzanar
Free Press and my next to the latest letter, there has been an effort to form an organization to be called the Manzanar Citizens
Federation. I was fortunate enough to stick my long nose into the mess at the ground floor. I contrived to keep a sort
of a record of the proceedings, so I typed them out. This explains the typed paper which I have enclosed. Do you know,
Mrs Nance, before I was evacuated to Manzanar, I sent you some letters which some people sent to me. Do you still have them?
(Am I blunt enough?) Shizuo Hori wanted to see what I sent to you. Don’t worry too much if you can’t locate them because
I can then placate Shizuo with your letter. Fair enough? By the way (get ready for a big, broad hint) ---------------(are
you ready?)-----------------------------have you done any baking of anything recently? There, now I feel that I can close
this letter. Ain’t I subtle though? Cordially + stuff, Paul H.
