Scope and Content Note

Series contains letters written by figures prominent in late nineteenth-century French art and literature. Most deal with professional matters such as publication and review of articles, and organization of conferences and expositions. Most are addressed to Champier, but some are addressed to others and were collected by Champier. Letters are arranged alphabetically by correspondent. Champier's 1901 introduction to the letters is included. Most of the letters were annotated by Champier with the name and occupation of each correspondent.
A few correspondents were listed by Champier but their letters are not part of the archive. The names are noted and marked as "missing."
