Arrangement

Arranged alphabetically by surname, corporate name and subject headings, then chronologically. A few separate files all dating from 1958 to 1961 and containing correspondence along with correspondence with Mildred Cecil, McCone's secretary while serving at the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), were incorporated under the AEC or appropriate surnames.

Scope and Content Note

Contains correspondence with government officials including Presidents and Vice Presidents from Dwight D. Eisenhower to Ronald Reagan, Congressmen, cabinet members under several administraitons as well as business associates and friends. Also contains McCone's memoranda summarizing meetings, telephone conversations, and reminders of specific issues as well as travel diaries, invitations, cards, itineraries, and notes. Includes testimonies from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)/International Telephone and Telegraph Corporation (ITT)/Chile Senate hearings, government and legal documents, organization papers including those of ITT, the Music Center of Los Angeles County, South Eleuthera Properties, Ltd.(SEPL), and the University of Southern California (USC). These consist of bylaws, articles of incorporation, agreements, guarantees, minutes, reports, financial statements, newsletters, and printed materials. Also includes scrapbooks mainly related to events while in government service for the United States Air Force and the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission as well as other newsclippings, photographs, negatives, and slides.
