I am happy to inform you that your application for admission to graduate study at the University of California, Berkeley, has been approved provisionally for the quarter and program indicated below. Before we can give final approval to your admission, it will be necessary for you to submit an official record showing satisfactory completion of any remaining course work and award of your degree.
Our decision has been based on careful consideration of your qualifications and intentions in comparison with those of many other applicants. For this reason, I wish to stress that our approval is a specific one for the quarter and program mentioned below. Please refer to the enclosed instruction sheet for any conditions that may pertain to your acceptance, as well as for registration information.
You may plan your program with the Graduate Adviser in your department after arrival. If you have questions in the interim, please write directly to the department. Please remember that admission to graduate standing does not carry any guarantee of advancement to candidacy for a higher degree or certificate; admission to candidacy will depend upon your scholastic performance at Berkeley.
Should you find it impossible to enroll in the quarter to which you have been admitted, your admission to any later one is not automatic. Consideration for a later term requires the completion of varying additional forms, to be requested from the department and/or the Graduate Division and returned within the regular admission application deadlines. Records for students who do not register for the quarter for which admission has been granted are kept for two years only.
