The Women's American ORT is an American Jewish woman's organization dedicated to providing occupational and vocational education to others in need so that they may attain economic self-sufficiency. It was established in 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y. Today, it is the largest ORT affiliate and the leading contributor to ORT programs. Chapters of the Women's American ORT appear to have started in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1940s and early 1950s.
