Photographs of ferryboats, chiefly large steamers of the San Francisco Bay Area. Each album contains photographic prints and
postcards of multiple ferries. Additional material in PIC box 1 and AX box 1 also depicts a wide range of ferries. Those most
frequently pictured are steamers Eureka, Sausalito, Sacramento, Oakland and Cazadero. Other vessels, chiefly ferries, include
Piedmont, Berkeley, Delta King, Delta Queen, Treasure Island, Melrose, San Rafael, Newark, and Barry K. Many ferries were
photographed during their operation by the Southern Pacific Railroad Company. Ships associated with other regions include
Eppleton Hall, Ticonderoga, Queen Mary, Il de France, Robert Fulton and Alexander Hamilton. San Francisco, especially the
area around the Ferry Building; Sausalito; and/or San Francisco Bay appear in many views. Knorp is depicted in many photographs,
usually posing on a ferry. Also includes 4 prints by Louis Macouillard: steamer Cazadero (FR frame), steamer Eureka at S.F.
Ferry Building (B folder), steamer Tamalpais with Marin County and Mt. Tamalpais in background (B folder) and a streetcar
of the California Street Cable Railroad (B folder). Also includes 3 ephemeral Commuter's Crying Towels, issued on the occasion
of the closure of particular Bay Area ferry boat runs (AX box 1). Images in the collector's negative file (NEG box 1) depict
various ferries; most of these images are reproduced among the prints.
